Bob Marley was diagnosed with Acral lentiginous melanoma which is an type of cancer not caused by sunlight. This cancer started under his toenail, Marley was adviced by his doctor to have his toe cut off which he rejected. Years after being diagnosed Marley collapsed while jogging in Central Park and was taken to the hospital, Where it was discovered that his cancer had spread to his brain, liver, and lungs. His health continues deterioting shortly after, Marley underwent a cancer treatment called Issels treatment which failed to treat his cancer. Eight months after, Marley got on a plane to go home in Jamaica. During the flight Marley's vital functions worsened. After landing in Miami, Florida, he was taken to Cedars of Lebanon Hospital then later Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital for medical attention, where he died on May 11, 1981 at age 36, due to the spread of melanoma to his lungs and brain
