Globalization is the process of interaction and integration among people, companies, and governments worldwide. Globalization has accelerated since the 18th century due to advances in transportation and communication technology.
Though globalization is usually extremely beneficial, some countries may face challenges also. Jamaica is one place that experiences some of these effects. Due to the limited resources on the island, Jamaica is struggling to compete with larger, developed countries. Jamaica's agriculture is financially suffering. In the past, Jamaican people used to thrive on their bananas, coffee, and sugar, but now other countries are making it difficult to compete.
On the other hand, Jamaica also has some advantages from globalization. Their main interdependence with the rest of the world is their successful tourism business. Jamaica is home to some of the most beautiful beaches and relaxing resorts on the planet. Many tourists from all over travel to Jamaica for a great vacation. Furthermore, Jamaica has an abundance of bauxite and alumina, which are major items of trade and profit. Jamaica also relies on remittances to contribute to the economy.
