Jamaican music is influenced by both African and European elements. African musical elements have created the basis of Jamaican music, some elements such as the call-and-respose style of singing, one-drop rhythm, and Jamaican language (Patois) which is sung in Jamaican musics is a creole language from English and African linguistic elements. European influences are also apart of Jamaican music, in the colonial era black slave bands had to perfom Waltzes, Reels, Quadrilles and other songs and dance styles for their European masters. These music styles remained in Jamaican Folk musics until the mid 20th century.
